Special Boiled Eggs (Googies/Chookens) Recipe

In our house boiled eggs (Googies or Chookens) for breakfast always go down a treat. This is a quick and easy breakfast or snack recipe that kids love, particularly when they have their own egg cups – its surprising how attached kids get to their own egg cups – especially ones with funky cow designs like ours!

Special Boiled Egg Recipe Ingredients

  • Fresh eggs (one per person), preferably free range
  • Parmesan cheese, finely grated (small handful per person)
  • Bread, toasted (sourdough, turkish or any other bread you fancy)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Special Boiled Egg Recipe Method

Fill a small/medium saucepan (depending on the number of eggs; I use a small saucepan for 3 eggs) three quarters of the way full with water and bring to a rapid boil. Gently spoon the eggs into the boiling water (don’t drop them in as the shells will crack and let water in) and boil for 4 minutes (4 minutes will cook the whites through and leave the yolks slightly runny – get the kids to time it).

While the eggs are cooking grate the Parmesan cheese and toast the bread. Gently spoon the eggs out of the water and into egg cups. Crack the tops of the eggs with a spoon and cut the tops off. Serve the eggs with toast (cut into soldiers of course!), salt and pepper and Parmesan sprinkled into the runny egg yolk.
